Meet our Tutors and Staff:
Glenn N. – Expert Tutor
Glenn has a Master’s Degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford, a Bachleor’s in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT and a Minor in Creative Writing. His experience spans work in semiconductor manufacturing to the research & development of new designs in the laboratory holding 2 engineering patent designs. He has taught at DeAnza Community college and is an active volunteer at The Crucible in Oakland. Glenn has always had a passion for math and science. Coming from a family of engineers and teachers his approach to tutoring stems from ensuring anyone can understand the basic principles. He is patient and understanding of the difficulties in wrapping ones head around a problem.
In his spare time, he likes to travel, hike and is an avid fan of board games and sci-fi/fantasy. He also is a beginning woodworker, a soccer fan and likes to reminisce about his college days in fencing. He is a dog person having 3 miniature dachshunds.
Ron H. – Expert Tutor & College Admissions Specialist
Ron finished his PhD in organic chemistry in 2007 from the University of Texas in Austin, TX where he worked extensively as a teaching assistant and tutor throughout his 6 years there. Before that he obtained his bachelor of science in chemistry from the College of William & Mary in Virginia, graduating with High Honors for his research on chemical reaction mechanism discovery. He moved to the Bay Area in 2007 to conduct postdoctoral studies as Sandia National Labs in Livermore. in 2010 he transitioned to the corporate world as a product development chemist for Seagate Technology.
While at the William & Mary, Ron pursued a minor in Music with a focus on Vocal Performance. He remains quite active in the music and theatre community in the Bay Area where he has performed in and helped produce several musical theatre production over the last eight years.
Ron’s main philosophy of teaching is to generate understanding through real life experience. Many scientific concepts can be rather abstract and difficult to understand. Finding the right way to relate a concept to something from a student’s every day life is often the key to successful comprehension.
Jelena J. – Expert Tutor
Jelena earned her Bachelor of Arts from UC Santa Barbara in Global Studies. After working in the tech field for the past several years, Jelena is now working to pursue a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. In the process of completing these classes, Jelena is usually the one organizing study groups and helping out fellow students. With this approach, she takes a collaborative initiative to tutoring to make sure each student is involved in the learning process and actively engaged to develop their confidence in study techniques in various subjects.
Throughout high school, Jelena participated in the Health and Bioscience Academy which developed her initial enthusiasm for the Math and Science fields. With this background, she is comfortable tutoring Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, and Math in addition to French, English, Writing and History.
Jelena is an avid traveler and has had the opportunity to visit Montenegro, Denmark, Norway, Spain, France, Italy, England and Costa Rica to name a few. In her free time, she is an avid hiker and loves exploring the outdoors.
Olivia H. – Expert Tutor & College Admissions Specialist
Olivia has a Bachelor of Science in Physics with minors in Russian, art, and mathematics. Though she is originally from Colorado, she spent the past year living in Baku, Azerbaijan working as a Private Tutor and then traveling through Eastern Europe with her fiance before settling in San Francisco. She has spent many years tutoring students in both one-on-one and classroom settings.
As a Physicist, and an Artist, Olivia enjoys creative methods of teaching and encouraging students to think outside the box. She also is a natural leader, driven to help young women to pursue their goals in STEM fields. She has created science workshops and founded student organizations focused on exactly this.
In her free time, you will find her running/exploring the city, reading, painting, cooking, and bothering her fiance.
Erica G. – Expert Tutor
Erica is in her final year of undergraduate studies at the University of California Santa Cruz, where she will earn a B.S. in Human Biology. At UC Santa Cruz, Erica is very involved in student organizations within the STEM fields. She currently runs a student organization on campus where she facilitates academic events (study sessions) during midterms and final exams. Her strengths include biology, math, chemistry, Spanish, history, and physics. Erica has experience tutoring high school students, as well as her peers at UC Santa Cruz.
Erica loves to stay active by hiking, playing basketball, and going to the gym. She also loves to travel to the east coast to visit her brother and catch a glimpse of the many historical landmarks.
Shubhit N. – Expert Tutor
Shubhit is a graduate from U.C. Berkeley with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration and minor in Theater. While in college, he continuously tutored his classmates and served as the Head Graduate Student Instructor. Shubhit believes that a passionate teacher can motivate his/her students to take genuine interest in their academics, which in turn improves their performance. Hence, as a tutor, he wants help students develop a strong understanding of what they are studying and become a confident test-taker. He is comfortable teaching math, physics, economics, finance, accounting and social studies.
Shubhit also has a deep interest in acting. He has performed in plays throughout the Bay Area and acted in several short-films. He likes watching movies and really admires Al Pacino. In his free time, he enjoys playing Cricket.
Bea F. – Expert Tutor
Bea has a Master’s Degree in Engineering for Development from the University of Southampton U.K. and holds two Bachelors in Civil Engineering, one of which she obtained from the University of Brighton U.K. and the other from l’Université Joseph Fourier in Grenoble, France where she is originally from. She has worked in various places around the globe as a water engineer.
Bea has a passion for modeling and encouraging smart study strategies. She has tutored since high school, and has a strong passion for educating young minds. Bea specializes in the subjects of physics, chemistry, math and French. Additionally she can help you prepare for your French SAT subject test.
She has a passion for traveling, cultures, food and architecture. When she is not busy tutoring or working on her career development, she is busy food blogging.
Brian S. – Expert Tutor
Brian graduated from Sonoma State with a degree in Statistics. While at Sonoma State, he took courses such as Introduction and Intermediate Statistics, Probability Theory, Linear Regression and Experimental Design, Calculus 1-4, Statistical Consulting, and Macro/Microeconomics.
Brian been tutoring mathematics for years; first on campus part-time and now professionally full-time. Statistics is his specialty, but he is very equipped to tutor any mathematics his students require. Brian aspires to continue his education in the upcoming years, but for now he is enjoying the rewarding work of teaching mathematics. His love for teaching stems from an understanding that teachers have the ability to have an influence on the newer generation and lifelong positive influences for students. Nothing is more satisfying than knowing that you helped somebody achieve something challenging!
When Brian is not working, he enjoys spending time in the gym, watching sports, or being outside in nature.
Christine H. – Expert Tutor
Christine has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources and a minor in Psychology. Though born and raised in Pleasanton, she spent two years at an International High School in Osaka, Japan. There, she began her tutoring experience, and continued when she came back to the states for college at University of the Pacific.
Christine has spent many years tutoring students in both one-on-one and classroom settings, and has tutored students ranging from elementary grade levels to high school. With the experience that she has, Christine has found that persistence and motivation are the keys to improving both school work and study habits. Among the subjects she tutors, she is comfortable tutoring Math, Science, English, Psychology, History, and Reading Comprehension.
When not tutoring, she enjoys traveling, trying new foods, and spending time with friends and family.
Tyler M. – Expert Tutor & College Admissions Specialist
Tyler has a B.S. in Physics and in Mathematics with a minor in Spanish from Colorado State University (CSU). He has been teaching in all of these subjects (plus some) for over seven years at all levels, and even spent six months teaching in Baku, Azerbaijan. He is able to learn and teach in all styles, making him an empathetic and flexible instructor.
Tyler is an adventurer. As an Eagle Scout, he has backpacked through the Rockies, waded rivers through the rain-forests of the pacific-northwest, and spent this past summer living out of a pack in Eastern Europe with his fiancée before settling in San Francisco.
His love of nature has extended to his academic career as well. Tyler spent 4 years as a research scientist for CSU and NREL, developing new materials and techniques for solar panels in his quest to save the world from fossil-fuels. He even owned a small company designing tools for solar manufacturers.
In his free time, Tyler likes to camp and hike, explore the city, read and write, cook, as well as play all different types of games.
Karen D. – Expert Tutor
Karen is finishing up her final quarter of undergraduate studies at California State University – East Bay and will graduate with a Bachelor of Art in Sociology in March 2017. She has taken a wide range of college courses that have helped her understand social problems in human society. She also previously studied piano performance at Northwestern University and Texas Christian University. She attended high school in Pleasanton, finishing seven different AP classes during her time there. She understands the challenges of managing different courses in school.
Karen has experience working with students of all ages and enjoys encouraging them to explore new ways of learning. She prefers working one-on-one with students because she can have a direct impact and motivate students with different learning strategies. Karen has worked as a teaching assistant for an afterschool program, as a behavior technician with autistic kids, and as a private piano instructor. Karen is comfortable with a variety of subjects, especially with English, Writing, History, Psychology, Math, and Science.
When she is not working, Karen enjoys being active – whether it is working out in the gym, practicing yoga at home, or exploring the outdoors.
Kristen K. – Expert Tutor
Kristen has a Masters degree in Inorganic Chemistry from San Francisco State University, where she also earned her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a minor in mathematics. Her previous work at UCSF and the Veterans Medical Center SF focused on using new technologies to sequence gene mutations in HIV and cancer cells. Currently, Kristen is exploring a career as a high school teacher. She also volunteers her time with Breast Cancer Action, a non-profit organization that aims to reduce Breast Cancer through environmental activism. Kristen enjoys tutoring chemistry, physics, math, history and writing and looks forward to seeing her student’s faces light up when they understand a new concept.
In her spare time she knits, reads fantasy novels and spends time on her sailboat with her dog.
Alberto G. – Expert Tutor & College Admissions Specialist
Alberto studied Physics in Argentina and then came to the states and earned an MBA and a Ph.D. (Biophysics) from Purdue University in Indiana. After graduation, he has worked developing statistical models for the financial industry and the government sector. Alberto is passionate about teaching science (Physics, Chemistry, etc.), all levels of math (including Algebra, Calculus and Statistics) and foreign languages. In parallel to his business career, he has many years of tutoring and teaching experience at the high-school and at the college levels. Alberto is fluent in Spanish, German, Italian, French and Portuguese. Besides learning languages and keeping up with recent science developments, Alberto enjoys spending time in nature, jogging and hiking in the forest.
Richard P. – Expert Tutor
Richard is a Bay Area native who grew up in Livermore. After spending his high school years in the marching band and accelerated courses he went off to California State University, Fresno where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminology in 2011. He came back to the Bay Area after graduating and settled down with his wife and French Bulldog, Boomer.
Richard also works professionally in the solar industry where he spends a majority of his time training and developing his employees. One of his greatest passions is helping people reach that “light bulb” moment where something clicks with the person he is training. His passion for learning is infectious and he tries to make the subject being taught a personable and fun experience. Richard enjoys tutoring history, mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, English & writing.
In his free time Richard can be found exploring the bay area with his camera in hand, going for bike rides or heading to a local golf course.
Stephanie S. – Expert Tutor
Stephanie is a writer and educator living in the Bay Area. She enjoys writing, movies, hiking, yoga and spending time with her family and friends. Stephanie believes that each student learns differently and at various speeds. She believes in implementing students’ strengths to their learning experience to make learning not only more fun, but more natural and progressive.
She previously worked as a staff reporter for Academy Art U News, reviewing films and covering events in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has been tutoring for over 4 years and working with students of all ages in the Bay Area including subjects: English, history, math, Spanish, screenwriting, creative writing, and composition for college students. She was a Teaching Assistant at Saint Mary’s College of California where she received her Masters of Fine Arts degree in 2014. A Hofstra University Alumnus as of 2010, where she received a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Film Studies and Production, and English Literature and Creative Writing. She has also been published in the Culture Trip, MARY: A Journal of New Writing, and World Y.O.G.A. Life Magazine.
Sonia K. – Expert Tutor
Sonia attended Boston University as Psychology major and French literature Minor. She began tutoring French and Arabic to college students on campus. After moving to the Bay Area, Sonia received a degree in Early childhood Development and completed two years of Spanish. She currently works part time at both Las Positas College Community Ed and Quarry Lane School.
A teacher and tutor for over eight years, Sonia has been creating lessons that engage all learners by applying a variety of teaching methods. In both her positions, she met with parents to keep them apprised of their child’s accomplishments and areas needing extra attention. Sonia is passionate about teaching and forge relationships with her students that help build a sense of confidence and competence.
In her spare time, Sonia loves to Zumba and listens to Pandora. If she’s not exploring her town, she’ll be visiting new countries and learning about their cultures. She also likes to spend time with her family and dog Lola.
Atara J. – Expert Tutor
Atara holds her Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences with a minor in Psychology from Tulane University. After graduating, Atara pursued teaching elementary and middle school students environmental and sustainability sciences in an outdoor classroom setting in New York and New Orleans. With a hands-on approach, Atara engages her students to understand academic concepts and their realistic application to connect them to the topics they are learning. Currently, Atara is pursuing her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine, and in the process of completing her courses for the medical program. Due to her interest in the sciences and helping others, Atara specializes in tutoring Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy in addition to English, Environmental Science, Physics, Mathematics, History, French, and Hebrew and is committed to seeing students achieve their academic goals!
Atara has a passion for alternative health, gardening, rock climbing, reading, cooking and volunteering in conservation.
Naveed K. – Expert Tutor
Naveed has earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and Masters in Finance, which enables him to give a unique perspective to students on how Math and Science is used in Engineering and Business solutions. Naveed has years of experience tutoring all levels of students in general sciences, chemistry, physics and math. He has a deep passion for tutoring these subjects with an approach that is fundamental, basic and practical. Naveed makes concepts and methodologies very clear and assigns students to practice the concept. By developing an understanding of student needs, he tailors each tutoring program to achieve maximum benefit for the student.
Naveed is an avid sports fan both on and off the couch. When not watching cricket and baseball on TV, he spends his time golfing, playing basketball, running and hiking.
Emily W. – Expert Tutor
Emily has a B.Sc. (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of York, England, and is doing a PhD in molecular biology. Throughout her education in both the UK and the US she has tutored at various levels, primarily middle and high school in the subjects of biology, chemistry, French, mathematics, English and writing, history and physics.
Emily’s tutoring method has been influenced by her own educational experience: learning is highly individual and can be heavily influenced by the student’s comfort and confidence levels. To build these Emily seeks to not only advance the student’s understanding and facility with the subject, but also to encourage them towards a real enthusiasm for their schooling.
When Emily has free time she enjoys writing, playing board games, cooking and gardening, though not all at the same time.
Nikita M. – Expert Tutor
Nikita graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a Bachelors of Arts in Biology and Spanish. She is passionate about teaching biology, chemistry, math and Spanish.
While Nikita attended Foothill High School, she was the president of the Spanish club for 2 years. She provided tutoring help for students in her high school and set up an after school tutoring program at hart middle school. She also worked with kids at valley view elementary school who were learning English as a second language.
Nikita loves spending time with family and friends, hiking, and reading books at the park. During her time at UCSC she was danced on her school’s Indian dance team. She also loves to travel to a new destination every year with her family, especially Spanish speaking countries.
Henry H. – Expert Tutor
Henry holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from UCLA. He once worked as a peer tutor at Oakland Technical High School, mentoring students in all 4 core subjects of English, math (Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, etc.), science, and history while tackling on a wide range of honors and AP level courses at the same time. He is also well-versed in the concepts frequently encountered in all levels of biology and chemistry. Henry has additional skills in the area of the interpretative and problem solving capability to help students tackle on Newtonian physics.
Henry has had the opportunity to take the following AP courses as a high school student: Biology, U.S. History, Calculus AB and BC, U.S. Government and Politics, English Literature and Composition, Physics C: Mechanics, Chemistry, and Statistics. Henry is enthusiastic about bringing his expertise to the table and is looking forward to tutoring young students once again in the previously mentioned core subjects as well as Spanish this time around. He seeks intuitive ways to grasp, understand, and retain knowledge of course concepts and will ensure that the student will be able to apply concepts with confidence.
During his free time, Henry partakes in photography, taking portrait, candid, and cityscape photos during occasional outings inside and outside of the Bay Area. He also partakes in various forms of tabletop games as a fun and immersive way to apply problem solving skills and to keep his mind at work.
Andrew T. – Expert Tutor
Andrew began his academic career at St Francis high school and continued on to earn his Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering from Cal Poly San luis Obispo. After almost a year of working in engineering sales, it dawned on him (was revealed to him by his wife) that this was not his passion. After hard deliberation Andrew set out to get work in the field he had loved, the field of education. Searching high and low in the bay area, Andrew finally found a match with Pleasanton Tutoring, whose hands on style and mission matched the goals he had set for himself.
With years of tutoring experience under his belt from work with the YMCA, the Berkeley Unified School District and countless hours of private tutoring sessions Andrew continues to work towards his goal of becoming a certified teacher, or a professional MAGIC the gathering player — whichever comes first. Andrew enjoys tutoring in the subjects of mathematics, history, biology, physics, English, writing, and French.
In his free time Andrew studies coding languages, plays a variety of board games, doodles a cartoon of something, and enjoys all of MARVEL’s superhero movies.
Jennifer M. – Expert Tutor
Jennifer graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor’s degree in History. She has tutored middle school and high school in a variety of subjects using the AVID system. She enjoys the challenge presented by figuring out the best way for each individual student to learn, and does her best to help them be inquisitive about all subjects so they can learn why things work as opposed to strict memorization.
Jennifer spends her free time playing violin and participating in a number of historical reenactments events to help teach people of all ages learn about history. She also enjoys sewing and a variety of dancing styles including ballroom and hula.
Matthew C. – Expert Tutor & College Admissions Specialist
Born and raised in the Bay Area, Matt earned his B.S. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California, Davis in 2009. While there he received an award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science for his work in ecology, where he contributed to the study of microorganisms associated with intertidal isopods on the Eastern Pacific.
Matt became interested in tutoring in college while volunteering at his university’s tutorial center in order to help students struggling with often-rigorous math and science curriculum, and his passion for tutoring continued after graduation.
When not tutoring, Matt can often be found on the basketball court, soccer field, running, swimming or on his bicycle training for future triathlons. He is also an avid diver and spearfisherman, and his continuing interest in microbiology has recently steered him towards the art of brewing. When his legs hurt, sometimes he just sits down and plays the guitar, which he has been doing for over 12 years. He also never misses a Warriors game. Go dubs!
Nate B. – Expert Tutor
Nate has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Accounting from the University of California, Santa Cruz. During his time at UCSC, he was active in the Economics Association, as well as was one of the founding members of the Gesher Group, an investing and consulting group that now serves over 30 businesses. He spent the latter half of his college years tutoring fellow college students in economics and math as well as children at Bay View Elementary School in Santa Cruz.
Nate has always enjoyed working with students of all ages to achieve their potential. He has lived his entire life in Pleasanton and volunteers within the community refereeing and coaching youth basketball. He is also a NASM certified personal trainer who has helped run several summer fitness camps for middle and high school athletes, as well as worked with many college athletes at UCSC. Nate thoroughly believes that physical fitness and activity is a fantastic way to improve mental well-being. We call Nate a “super tutor” because he can tutor just about anything, from math and science to history and English!
In his free time, Nate enjoys playing sports, riding bikes, lifting weights, and walking his dog Sammie.
Molly S. – Expert Tutor
Molly studied at the Academy of Art University, in San Francisco. She obtained a BFA in illustration. During her studies, Molly honed her skills in creative writing, written communication, and essay building. Since graduation, Molly has worked in the field of children’s media.
Molly has developed assets for children’s books and educational board games. Additionally, Molly has a strong understanding of language arts, reading, and writing. She has a great deal of experience in passing on her knowledge to others. In her spare time, Molly enjoys creating illustrations, bike riding, hiking, and spending time with her dog.
Alex P. – Expert Tutor
Alex earned a bachelor of science in physics with a minor in mathematics. He’s currently attending the master’s program in applied mathematics. Throughout his undergraduate career, Alex has tutored a wide range of mathematics courses from college algebra, trigonometry, single and multivariable calculus, linear algebra and mathematical proofs.
During his undergraduate career, Alex has participated in various independent research projects. He’s worked in an atomic and an astrophysics group, the atomic group used lasers and vacuums to trap and cool atoms to microkelvin levels to test fundamental quantum mechanical properties and the astrophysics group used computers at UC Santa Cruz to perform data analysis on extragalactic blazars, which are among the most energetic events happening in the universe.
In his free time, Alex enjoys his free time by playing some video games, browsing the internet, performing research from the comfort of his home, and discussing some interesting mathematical or physics problems with colleagues.
Swethaa M. – Expert Tutor
Swethaa has a B.S. in Biological Sciences concentrating in Anatomy and Physiology with a minor in Women and Gender Studies from Cal Poly, Slo. While at Cal Poly, Swethaa was the President of American Medical Students Association where she organized study sessions and panels for students academic success in rigorous pre-med classes. In addition, she worked as a research assistant in the Keeling Lab, where she investigated changes in cell regeneration and development in Botrylloides Violaceus, eventually presenting her results at The West Coast Biological Sciences Research Conference.
Swethaa has been tutoring since high school and has continued to tutor throughout college, working with students struggling in upper division science and math courses. Swethaa’s goal when tutoring is to help the student achieve academic success as well as increase their confidence and competence of the subject material. Swethaa is comfortable tutoring in Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, Math, English, and History.
When not tutoring, Swethaa enjoys running, hiking, reading, painting, and spending time with family and friends.
Karen L. – Expert Tutor
Karen spent many years in Pittsburgh, PA, after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh. She has had a variety of work experiences and a long held interest in teaching. After a very rewarding experience teaching English to immigrants and refugees in the Twin Cities, she decided to pursue further education in the area of Teaching English as A Second Language.
Her graduate education is from Iowa State University. While living in the Midwest she also spent time working with elementary children to practice reading. Karen also enjoys tutoring history, psychology, social studies, English, and writing. Her instructional approach is patient and caring.
Since moving to the lovely Bay Area, she has been enjoying exploring her new surroundings, cooking, biking and hiking in the East Bay’s many nice parks.
Geoffrey G. – Expert Tutor and College Admissions Specialist
Geoffrey is a native San Franciscan who earned his J.D. from U.C. Hastings after getting his B.A. in Political Science from San Francisco State University. After passing the bar exam and beginning his legal career, Geoffrey quickly discovered that his passion lies more in the study of the law than in its day-to-day practice, and now plans to return to school to pursue a career in higher education.
Geoffrey has a wealth of experience teaching the SAT writing and reading sections to high-performing students. He also tutors students of all ages on English composition and grammar, U.S. and world history, U.S. government and economics, psychology, math, and the life sciences. Geoffrey believes that teaching students good study habits will pay dividends across all subject areas, and that every student is capable of excelling at any high school class, honors, AP, or otherwise, with the proper approach.
When he’s not working with students, Geoffrey can typically be found renovating the house he and his wife recently bought in Hayward. If she’s given him a day off, he will be on his computer, working on his latest novel manuscript, still hunting that elusive publishing deal.
Laura H. – Expert Tutor
Laura holds a Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Human Development from UC Davis, with an emphasis in youth development and 15+ ECE units. She is currently enrolled in Stanford University’s Strategic Decision and Risk Management Certificate Program, offered through the Stanford Department of Management Science and Engineering. She has worked with private school and public school students in multiple subjects for 10+ years, often working with students for multiple years through elementary school transitions and graduation of high school. Laura’s main tutoring subjects are Elementary math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, History, Biology, Physical Science, English, Writing, Vocabulary, Phonics, Reading, Comprehension, Grammar, Spelling, Study Skills, Organizational Skills, Psychology, College Counseling, and PSAT/SAT/ACT preparations. Laura has additional experience in mentoring and counseling. Her experience includes working with gifted students and students struggling with special needs, difficulties, and/or disabilities. Laura enjoys working with students to build upon their strengths and improve areas of weakness. She strives to build confidence in her students where they see the rewards from their dedicated efforts. She believes in building student skill sets (both in academics and in life) and in preparing students for independent success.
Laura is also a record holding former NCAA student athlete and former semi-pro soccer player, playing with and against many known national team and Olympic players. Her favorite time is spent outdoors being active in sports, recreation, her community, design, the arts, and having fun with family, friends, and her beloved dog.
Kara V. – Expert Tutor
Kara graduated from Woodbury University with a Bachelors of Architecture degree. While at Woodbury she went through leadership training where Kara learned how to work as a team to achieve common goals, how to deal with large responsibilities, and how to balance work and academics – all while remaining a positive example to others. In addition, Kara has plenty of experience tutoring and is confident in helping student in subjects of math, science, history, English and writing.
Kara is currently working as an Architectural Designer for a local firm. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, sewing, gardening and traveling.
Mallory V. – Expert Tutor
Mallory earned her Bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies from San Jose State University and plans to get a Master’s degree in English. Mallory is passionate about students learning in all subjects. Mallory received her teaching credential in both English and Social Studies from Brandman University. She has two years of experience tutoring and teaching middle school students in English, Language Arts, and World and American History. She taught 8th grade U.S. History this year in Alameda County.
In her spare time, Mallory enjoys taking ballet classes and reading everything she can get her hands on.
Robin T. – Expert Tutor
Robin has the gift of encouragement, and realized years ago that she could use this gift as a teacher, tutor and counselor. It is her greatest joy to work with children of all ages by guiding and encouraging them to achieve their goals in and out of school. She loves to learn and believes that all people have the intrinsic desire to learn, to strive to be the best they can possibly be, and it is her life’s goal to direct and educate students to see the value of life with the utmost of importance. Robin’s adventure for learning started 20 years ago, as a daycare provider learning strategic preschool learning skills from Sesame Street Training through KQED. Upon completing a B.A. in Communication, Robin set her sites on becoming a teacher; therefore she continued until she achieved her goal with a Credential to teach and a Master’s in Cross Cultural Education. While raising three sons, substituting in the Pleasanton Unified School District for nine years put her into contact with all grade levels.
Her greatest passion is to have fun learning and trying everything she can and pass this JOY on to others.
Eric G. – Expert Tutor
Eric graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts having earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Eric was a four- year varsity D1 basketball player for the College of the Holy Cross. Eric has many years of experience working with youth, and his strengths consist of math, statistics, biology, Spanish, physics, psychology, history, and reading/writing. Eric believes that practice and preparation are essential tools in learning and becoming a better, more confident student.
In his spare time, Eric enjoys exercising and playing basketball. He also enjoys helping coach his little brothers on their soccer team, and visiting Disneyland with his family.
Samantha R. – Expert Tutor and College Admissions Specialist
Samantha is a Bay Area native who truly enjoys learning and teaching others. She has worked with children as a counselor, nanny, after school teacher and tutor, and preschool teacher. Helping children learn and grow is her passion. In order to help teach others Samantha decided to study a variety of subjects in college. She has five AA degrees (yes, FIVE!) in Humanities, Language Arts, Social Science, Liberal Arts, and Early Childhood Development. She graduated from Las Positas College in 2012 with highest honors in all five areas. She also spent time taking a variety of science classes focusing on biology, math, and chemistry. Additionally, Samantha is an advocate for quality early childhood education, working the Alameda County Child Care Planning Council to help ensure that all children have access to high quality education from the start.
In her spare time Samantha enjoys reading (especially science fiction), practicing the martial art Krav Maga, and exploring downtown Livermore.
Ashely P. – Expert Tutor
Ashley earned a B.S. in Biology from California State University Stanislaus and plans to continue on to graduate school. In college she worked as a tutor and an interpreter. She has many years of experience tutoring elementary school students to undergraduate students from the United States and other countries. Ashley enjoys helping students achieve academic success and building their self-confidence in their studies. In her free time she enjoys salsa dancing with her husband and spending time with friends and family.
Jessica A. – Operations Manager & Educational Consultant
Jessica, our truly amazing operations manager, graduated from California State University with a Bachelor’s in Psychology. She has volunteered with different organizations to help tutor students in a wide variety of subjects. She has years of experience with customer relations and is excellent at problem solving.
Jessica has been working with Pleasanton Tutoring for four years, often working behind-the-scenes on educational projects and tutor-client matching. She is a vital resource and a wealth of knowledge, and can help direct your student to a path of success. In her free time, Jessica enjoys swimming and hiking. She also enjoys spending time with her family and trying new restaurants.
